Way to ruin your goals #1: Lack of Planning
Lack of planning is like starting a new character and running out into the world but you never selected your stats, chose a profession or accepted the first set of quests. Are you going to be a blacksmith or a mage? You might be making progress because you are killing rats, but you aren't getting any credit for those yet and might have to do it again.
Be sure to check your quest log IRL and make sure you are making progress on your main story line.
Way to ruin your goals #2: Procrastination
You got a main quest but the destination seems too far away so you let other things both in game and in real life distract you. Instead of heading over the bridge to the next town, you say you'll do it once you have a horse. You half heartedly attempt to get a horse but start researching ways to get across the bridge faster. Before you know it, you've spent more time looking up how to cross the bridge then just attempting to cross it. Load up your satchel and get out of the starter town!
Once you start making progress, even without knowing the perfect path, you'll be on your way to collecting those sweet quest rewards.
Way to ruin your goals #3: Fear of Failure
You have your quests and you know where you need to go but it's sending you to a dungeon you haven't been before. You might not make it out alive. You start worrying that you'll die so you kick back into procrastination and research into different ways to complete your journey. You tell everyone you are working on the dungeon but never have really even attempted it. Failure sets in.
Hey man - instead of worrying about potential bad outcomes, think of life as gaining experience. The only real failure is not giving yourself a chance to level up.
Way to ruin your goals #4: Overcommitment
You started working on your quest by avoiding procrastination and are no longer worried about failing but now you noticed there are some more quests to accept. It starts small and you accept a few here and there but before you know your quest log is full. You need to find berries and mine for ore, kill some bears and explore an unknown part of the map. The people who gave you the quest start asking where you've been and when you'll be done. You become overwhelmed with things to the point you no longer want to play the game.
It's time to focus up on what is important. It is okay to have multiple commitments but you may need to let people know you have to abandon their quest for now.
Way to ruin your goals #5: Neglecting your health
Before heading into that boss room, make sure your character is ready for the fight. You need mana and hit points to fight in game just like in life you need proper nutrition and sleep. You might be pushing for an all-nighter to finish the level or beat the raid but you need to keep an eye on your own health too.
Staying healthy isn't just good for you; it's your secret weapon to ensuring you can keep playing at your best!
Summary
To wrap it up, guys: Avoiding failure is like mastering a game. First, make a plan—know your main quest and make some checkpoints. Don't let procrastination pile up like unfinished side quests; tackle them head-on. Overcome your fear of failure by treating each setback as a learning level, not a game over. Remember, overcommitting is like playing too many games at once—focus on winning one before you start another. And never neglect your health; your real-life HP is crucial for sustained success.
