Easiest Way to Edit Host File Windows 10 by Jason Ramsey on Friday, June 30th 2017
A good trick to working on a development machine is to edit your host file so that you can keep the same url but point a website to your own box. This can get annoying to edit as you need to be running an Admin editor, here is how you can create a shortcut for this process.
Here are the simple steps you need to take:
Right click on your desktop
Select New > Shortcut
Type 'notepad' as the location
Give the shortcut a name
Right click 'Properties' on the shortcut
To the end of the 'target' text box, append '%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts' (remember to leave a space)
